WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
Jenny McCarthy
LAST WEEK Jenny McCarthy became the first celebrity Bunny blackjack dealer at the Playboy Club high atop the Palms Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. The ‘94 Playmate of the Year went through extensive training to become a licensed dealer. She raked in $3,000 in tips (during her 9 p.m.-midnight shift), which she donated to fight autism. Evan Joseph, her 5-year-old son, is autistic, and next month the Bunny-turned-author releases her first book, titled Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism.
THIS MONTH on www.AroundHawaii.com, Kimo’s Vegas tips to make your next trip a little more fun.
THE CASINOS in Nevada took in $12.7 billion in the fiscal year that just ended, and that represents a 4.6 percent increase over last year. The big winner for the casinos were the slot machines, which beat us for $8.34 billion, then BJ players lost $1.4 billion, the baccarat tables made $900.4 million, craps players deposited $471.8 million, then the sportsbooks made $175.7M, and finally we left $170 million at the poker tables.
SEPT. 2-8 is the first Las Vegas Restaurant Week. Celebrity chefs such as Tom Colicchio, Michael Mina, Bradley Ogden, Wolfgang Puck and Carla Pellegrino will create custom three-course meals for a flat rate of $50.07 each. Part of each meal’s cost will be donated to Three Square, a non-profit that serves 3,000 meals per week to the elderly and those in need. Get a list of all the participating restaurants at www.KimosVegas.com.
ONE OF THE names missing from the Las Vegas Walk of Fame ... Elvis! Tony Ruivivar from the Society of Seven is in charge of getting the King a star, and while there’s been no announcement yet, it’s a safe bet that the star will be front and center of the Riviera Hotel & Casino. Could it be the cornerstone of its transformation into “Graceland Casino”? Elvis is in the building!
IN NOVEMBER, Planet Hollywood will be displaying Elvis Presley’s wedding ring, Marilyn Monroe’s jewelry, and costumes worn in the movies by Charlton Heston, Mike Myers, John Wayne, Keanu Reeves and more. Then everything goes on the Dec. 14 auction block and, depending on the buyers, it may be a long time before we ever see this memorabilia again.
SEEMS EVERYONE has a convention ... even computer “hackers.” Wanting to get the scoops on the computer black ops at the 15th annual DefCon convention, Nightline sent a producer undercover with a hidden camera. Security is a big deal with these guys - you won’t find any name tags, admission must be paid in cash and cameras are a big no-no. But the dark geeks were not fooled ... by the time the convention started they knew more about the producer than her momma. She was outed in front of everyone and chased out the door ... let’s hope she’s very careful with her e-mail.
