LOCAL GIRL Kelly Hu says she loves to visit Vegas for the dining, shopping and entertainment. She says, “My mom comes to Vegas five or six times a year. She won’t even come to visit me in L.A., so I have to come to Vegas to see her!”

THE 24th annual Food and Wine Magazine Classic happening in Aspen (June 16-18) is considered America’s premier culinary event. This year the event hosts chefs from the Wynn Las Vegas Alex Stratta of ALEX; Daniel Boulud and Co-Executive Chef Philippe Rispoli of Daniel Boulud Brasserie; Paul Bartolotta of Bartolotta: Ristorante di Mare; Richard Chen of Wing Lei; David Walzog of SW Steakhouse; Stephen Kalt of Corsa Cucina & Bar; and Jenifer Witte, executive pastry chef of ALEX. As close to a foodie’s nirvana as one can get while still breathing.
US LOCALS love to stay downtown, and many of us know our way around better than we do downtown Honolulu. There’s a new proposal to develop the land behind the Plaza Hotel (Union Park) into a $4 billion complex of more than 3,600 condos, brownstones, lofts, apartments, 2 million square feet of office space, half-a-million square feet of retail space, three hotel-casinos, a new city hall, a performing arts center and more. If it happens, the project will be completed by the end of this decade.

CONGRATS TO Penn Jillette, the speaking half of Penn & Teller, on the arrival of his second child, Zolten Penn. Zolten is a common Hungarian name and his wife’s maiden name ... it’s also the name of Dracula’s dog. Not sure who’s got it worse ... his daughter’s name is Moxie Crimefighter (next time the kids complain about their names, tell them what it could’ve been).
CELINE DION makes a special appearance on the season finale of Deal or No Deal, where the grand prize is not $1 million but $5 million.
