WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... the Player’s Edge!
The Montreux is building the Las Vegas Eye,
similar to the London Eye pictured here
PHIL RUFFIN says the name of his new resort is Montreux (the Swiss town that’s home to the famous jazz festival) with an opening set for 2010. The New Frontier will be closing and demolished sometime next year. What will he do to make his $2 billion mega-resort stand out from his neighbor across the street, The Wynn Las Vegas? The Las Vegas Eye! Rising 450 feet above the Strip, the giant Ferris wheel is similar to the wheel in London called the London Eye. With an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion, Ruffin’s partner Donald Trump will not be a part of this project ... no, he wasn’t fired!
SPEAKING OF big wheels, there’s a new kind of stage show coming to Las Vegas ... The Price is Right Live! From the producers of American Idol, the show will be hosted by Todd Newton (Whammy!) and feature prizes like its TV counterpart. Tickets are $39.95 (+ tax and surcharge), and contestants are all selected from the audience. Check out the Jubilee showroom at Bally’s for more details and “Come on down!”
SEEN ON the Strip ... Duane “Dog” Chapman, from the A&E show Dog the Bounty Hunter. He was speaking at a bail bondsmen/bounty hunter convention at the Luxor. It was a tough crowd, but in the end the Dog got a standing ovation.
Motocross legend Mike Metzger will attempt
to set a Guinness world record at Caesar’s
Palace May 4
MOTOCROSS legend and X Games gold medalist Mike Metzger will attempt to set a Guinness world record by doing a back flip (on his motorcycle) over the Fountains at Caesar’s Palace May 4. The Impossible Jump is presented by Mission Impossible III and Caesar’s Palace, celebrating its 40th anniversary. The jump will air live on ESPN. To date there have been only two successful jumps, Evel Knievel in 1968 and Robbie Knievel in 1989 - and no successful back flips over the fountains.
AT THE CAL, Joseph Fuller won $1,200 twice while playing a 50 cent reel slot, and George Hayashi of Aiea won $4,500 on the $1 video poker machine.
