A Stadium Full Of Scary Stuff

Del.icio.usFor those of you who have watched some of the recent University of Hawaii football games and are already thinking that the current football season is scary enough, hold on to your Halloween costumes.
Aloha Stadium is now in the haunted house business.
This Friday through Halloween Eve it turns into “Haunted Stadium.” It’s an event that is billed for the entire family, says Aloha Stadium sales and marketing specialist Samantha Spain.
“This is the first year we’ve ever done something like this,” she says. “We’ve teamed up with the Hawaiian Island Ghost Hunters, who have done a great job on events like this in smaller venues.”
Now, you might want to know whether the Hawaiian Island Ghost Hunters is related to the football goblins that caused the UH Warriors to commit six turnovers and lose a one-point gut-wrencher on national television recently, but it turns out they really have nothing to do with the gridiron.
“They’re into paranormal stuff and ghost adventures, and Halloween is one of their specialties,” Spain says. “They’ll be building a number of ‘haunted rooms’ in our large hospitality room (immediately behind the main ticket office), including graveyards, a barrel of heads, characters popping out and a haunted nursery.”
Some of the other scary stuff and Spain says it will be very safe for youngsters includes a maze of four halls and 10 different rooms. There will be a Mad Scientist’s room, along with ghosts, vampires, and zombies and you might even be able to recognize a few characters from old horror movies. There’s even some Halloween “interactive” activities that promise to lead to some true hair-raising experiences.
“It’s going to be fun,” she says. “And we’ve toned it down a little bit, so youngsters 6 and above can enjoy. There also will be a keiki zone, with jumpers, balloons and food booths.” That area will be just outside the front of the stadium near the ticket offices and the Aloha Stadium volcano.
The Haunted Stadium Halloween event is part of a marketing effort by Aloha Stadium to have more community opportunities at the stadium. Usually the place for football games and the famous Swap Meet (both of which will be going on during the weekend, by the way, with the OIA football semi-finals Friday night and the Swap Meet through the weekend), Spain says, “we’re looking to add more small concerts, holiday events and family-friendly events. We’re also promoting our stadium tours for those people who want to see what goes on all around the stadium.”
Tickets for the Haunted Stadium cost $12 pre-sale at Prototype stores Ala Moana and Pearlridge, Mad Tiger Academy in Mililani, and at the Stadium Box Office and the Swap Meet and Marketplace. Tickets will cost $15 at the door.
