“First a test, then a cure.” That’s what publicist Elissa Josephsohn has been saying ever since she was diagnosed last year with primary peritoneal cancer, which is often misdiag-nosed, has no test and no cure, and is treated as ovarian cancer.
Now a patient at Kapiolani Medical Center’s wonderful Women’s Cancer Center headed by Dr. Michael Carney, Lisa has become one of Honolulu’s leading advocates for awareness and vigilance.
So it’s no wonder her supporters have banded together to stage “That’s What Friends Are For” Nov. 9 to assist with her mounting medical bills.
The event is at Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Restaurant Row from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with food by Ruth’s Chris, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Auntie Pasto’s and Dixie Grill, plus wine, beer and soft drinks provided by such “friends” as Southern Wine & Spirits, Lloyds of Honolulu and JMD Beverages.
“It promises an afternoon in keeping with the many fabulous fundraisers Lisa has worked on over the past years, most recently Music of the Night for Ballet Hawaii and opening night of Menopause the Musical for the Women’s Cancer Center at Kapiolani Medical Center,” says Sally Parker and Cherye Pierce, who are among the organizers.
Ruth’s Chris is going all out to be the site of the benefit, with its menu to be passed appetizers of Slow-Cooked Chicken Salad, Tomato Mozzarella Caprese Skewers, Greek-Style Beef Chop Salad in Mini Martini Glasses, Tango Shrimp and Shiitake Mushroom Potstickers.
Since Lisa’s boutique PR agency has represented so many shows as well as restaurants over the past 25 years, there undoubtedly will be lots of headliner talent, including Shari Lynn, Jimmy Borges, Don Conover, Cathy Foy-Mahi, Joey Caldarone, Kit Samson and others.
Some other members of the steering committee include Marian Benham, Meghan Buck, Caldarone, Janie Davis, Mark Davis, Beth Bowlen Harbottle, Charlotte Kandel of Los Angeles, Fran Kirk, Alex Kirley, Patti Milburn, Wendy Nagaishi, Natalie Parker, Nigel Salmingo, Eddie and Patty Sherman, Richard Vida of New York from the national tour of Drowsy Chaperone, Tina Wary and Indru Watumull.
