PROM DRESS HELP FROM BELLA PROJECT
The Bella Project, a local nonprofit that provides formal dresses and accessories to high school teens in Hawaii who are unable to purchase their own prom attire, is accepting donations at any Hawaii Self-Storage location on Oahu. Dresses and accessories are collected throughout the year, but with prom season approaching, the organization is hoping to have as many options available for its next event March 27 at the Hawaii Fashion Incubator Spring Pop-up Boutique at Ala Moana Center, as part of the mall’s Shop a Le’a festival. CLEAN OUT YOUR DRAWERS CAMPAIGN
Goodwill Industries of Hawaii is teaming up with Hanes, America’s No. 1 Basic Apparel Brand, to launch a Clean Out Your Drawers effort and encourage kamaaina to donate responsibly. Building on the strength of the Goodwill Donate Movement, a global public awareness initiative focusing on donating responsibly, the new partnership with Hanes will help Island residents learn more about how they can donate their gently used items to make a positive impact on their community and keep reusable items from Hawaii’s landfills. In addition, the act of donating may have rewards beyond the knowledge of giving back. Through March 31, donors can be automatically entered to win $50 gift cards and a grand prize of $2,500 plus Hanes products. To participate, individuals are encouraged to take a photo of themselves donating gently used Hanes clothing into the special Clean Out Your Drawers donation boxes at local Goodwill sites and then upload to the Clean Out Your Drawers Facebook page.
Hanes recently conducted research that sheds light into the usually dark spaces of our closets and drawers. According to a national survey commissioned by Hanes, most people wear only 70 percent of the items inside their drawers. Together, Goodwill and Hanes will encourage the public to organize, donate and replenish. The program was developed in response to an overwhelmingly common occurrence of cluttered, messy drawers and offers fun and easy solutions for getting organized.
Hanes also will give the regional Goodwill with the most entrants a donation of 15,000 packages of Hanes products. Should Hawaii have the most entrants, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii pledges to pay it forward and share the winning prize to help local families in need.
