Island Edge Opens
Wednesday - July 28, 2010
Island Edge, a new store at Ala Moana Center featuring exclusive collections of contemporary island fashions and lifestyle accessories, hosts a grand opening and fashion show July 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Many of the items available are made by Hawaii designers such as Roberta Oaks, Andy Mohan, Leighton Lam and Fighting Eel.
The store also presents The Island Edge Design Star, a fashion competition to give fashion designers an opportunity to begin or advance their careers. Contestants are required to submit a women’s or men’s clothing outfit in the form of one wearable garment sample (in size 2) and design sketches. The grand prize winner will have their design manufactured, sold in the store, receive naming rights for the label and royalties from sales.
In addition, the winner will receive $2,000 in prize money and $1,000 to donate to a charitable cause of their choice. Second- and third-place winners will receive $1,000 and $500 respectively. The designs and sketches will have dedicated displays in the store for one month where the public can cast ballots and send text messages for their favorite.
The Island Edge Design Star contest is open to Hawaii residents at least 18 years of age. Registration forms are available at Island Edge (located on the Mall Level across from Victoria’s Secret). Entries must be mailed to Pomare, Merchandising Department, 700 N. Nimitz Highway, Honolulu, HI 96817, and postmarked by Oct. 8. For more information, call 973-3269.
