Hui Makaala Fashion Show Oct. 22

The Hui Makaala 37th Annual Scholarship Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show takes place Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel-Hawaii Ballroom with fashions by local designer Jeanie Chun.

Originally from Seoul, Korea, Jeanie Chun has invested more than 30 years in the fashion industry in Hawaii and across the U.S., Canada, France and Japan. In addition to designing, she is a fashion and business consultant. She is the owner of Jacqueline De Michel, an alloriginal designer boutique in the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. She also maintains a private design studio at 3113 Olu St., off Kapahulu Avenue, creating original and elegant wedding dresses for mothers of brides and grooms, as well as classic styles for formal occasions. She also serves as Director of Design for Jean Michel USA, a line of sophisticated women’s sports and resort wear distributed to national and international markets.

Boutique sales and silent auction open at 9 a.m. with the luncheon, entertainment and door prizes at noon, and the fashion show at 1 p.m. Event tickets are $50 each, $500 for a table of 10, or $1,000 for a Corporate Table (table of 10). Lidia Charity Fashion Show Oct. 21

Lidia Inc. will show its 2007 collection at a special charity fashion show on Oct. 21 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel-Molokai Ballroom.

The dinner fashion show will feature celebrity models from Korea, including Korean movie stars Shin Hyun Joon (Stairway to Heaven, Rondo; pictured at right), Tak Jae Hoon (pictured at left with Lidia Shin), Howl (Princess Hours), Jung Jae Wook (One Fine Day), and Han Seung Ki (Lover).

In 1991, Korean designer Lidia Shin opened her first boutique in Las Vegas, and has since added boutiques in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles and New York. She also expanded operations to Seoul, South Korea. Tickets are $150 or $300 (VIP tickets), and available at Beauty Touch (located at Aiea Town Square, Don Quijote and Likelike Plaza) and at Panda Travel. For more information, call 343-2454.


Fresh F.A.C.E. of Nuuanu Street Oct. 14

The Fresh F.A.C.E. of Nuuanu Street Festival kicks off on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with 45 fashion designers, 100-plus models, three fashion shows, 25 art tents, international food booths, and 11 entertainment acts, including Chinese lion dances, and performances by Cathy Foy, Jordan Segundo, Cirque Hawaii and Hawaii Opera Theatre.

The Arts District is pulling out all the stops for an outdoor fashion show/street festival in celebration of National Arts & Humanities Month and the resurgence of Downtown/Chinatown.

Area art galleries and local businesses will also stage their own entertainment to coincide with the activities on the street.

The Art Board will hold an Eastern Cultural Fair on the Court featuring original kimonos, tea ceremony displays, kimono art by Jintaro Nishimura, and fashions from different east Asian countries.

Hotel Street’s Next Door and the Hawaii Women’s Business Center will also host their own fashion shows. At Next Door (43 N. Hotel St.) will be the second annual Urban Pacific Marketplace/Tradeshow from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with designers Flume, Sassy Lassy, Etta 06, Stylus, Anna Lucas, Noelani Designs, Cut N Sewn, San Lorenzo, and more. There will also be a fashion show at 5 p.m. The Hawaii Arts Alliance will highlight “Underage Thinking IV” at the ARTS at Marks Garage, which includes a hands-on mural-making community activity for kids from noon to 5 p.m.

Details Gallery will also have an all-day keiki craft fair where kids can learn how to make art from recycled materials.

And the Hawaii Theatre will feature contemporary dance group Momix in the evening. The event is the brainchild of local fashion designer Takeo Kobayashi and Sandy Pohl, owner of Louis Pohl Gallery.
