Children’s Consignment Event
The next Rhea Lana’s Children’s Consignment event in Honolulu takes place at Windward Mall June 24-26.
The temporary store accepts clothing for children, maternity and juniors, indoor and outdoor toys, children’s and household furniture, baby equipment, books, puzzles, video games/systems, DVDs, sports equipment and more. Consignors keep 70 percent of their total sales.
Consignors need to sign up and enter their items for sale online at honolulu.rhealana.com. Last day to enter items is June 19. Merchandise is then dropped off June 21-23, and a check along with your things that are not sold are to be picked up June 27. You also can choose to donate your unsold items to The Lokahi Giving Project.
Rhea Lana’s was founded in 1997 by Rhea Lana Riner, a wife and mother of three, who hosted her first consignment sale in her living room in Conway, Ark. In 1998, Riner and her husband, Dave, created a consignment sale barcoding and data entry system and hosted its first Web-based computerized children’s consignment event. In 2008, they started selling Rhea Lana’s Franchise packages, and have since grown with a total of 38 events in 15 states last year.

Deuces Hawaii’s Soles Of Hawaii
Shoe store Deuces Hawaii has started a nonprofit organization, Soles of Hawaii, to give back to the community through the medium of stylish footwear. Soles of Hawaii collects new or lightly used footwear and distributes the contributions to organizations that promote fashion for a cause. Residents have an alternative outlet to proactively give back, using shoes to ultimately strengthen Hawaii’s community one foot at a time.
“My day job is to serve and protect the people of Hawaii,” says Arlynn Orpilla, HPD officer and owner of Deuces Hawaii. “As much as I love wearing the coolest sneakers off-duty, I want to serve Hawaii in a different way by providing shoes to those who cannot afford it.”
The process is simple: Donate as many pairs of shoes that are at least 50 percent reusable - or in other words, no holes, rips or tears.
