Children’s Consignment

The next Rhea Lana’s children’s consignment event in Honolulu takes place Nov. 17 to 20 at 801 Dillingham Blvd. across the parking lot from Costco Iwilei. The temporary store accepts clothing (children, maternity and juniors), toys (indoor and outdoor), furniture (children and household), baby equipment, books, puzzles, video games/systems, DVDs, sports equipment and more. Consignors keep 70 to 80 percent of their total sales.

Consignors need to sign up and enter their items for sale online at honolulu.rhealana.com by Nov. 11 at noon. Merchandise is then dropped off Nov. 12 and 13, and a check along with your things that are not sold are to be picked up Nov. 21. You also can choose to donate your unsold items to The Lokahi Giving Project.

Rhea Lana’s was founded in 1997 by Rhea Lana Riner, a wife and mother of three, who hosted her first consignment sale in her living room in Conway, Ark. In 1998, Riner and her husband Dave, created a consignment sale barcoding and data entry system and hosted its first Web-based computerized children’s consignment event. In 2008, they started selling Rhea Lana’s Franchise packages, and have since grown with a total of 38 events in 15 states last year.

Laulani Village Groundbreaking

Property Development Centers (a Safeway subsidiary) held a blessing and groundbreaking last Thursday for Laulani Village Shopping Center in Ewa. The new 20acre center sits on the corner of Fort Weaver Road and Keaunui Drive (across from the Hawaii Prince Golf Club) and will include more than 218,000-square-feet of retail space. Upon full build out, the shopping center is anticipated to create 500 jobs.

A total of 70 retailers and service providers, including home improvement, hardware, apparel, lifestyle and restaurants are expected to populate the shopping center. A two-story office building will provide additional space for doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants and other professionals. A 60,000-square-foot Safeway will anchor the complex. Construction is expected to last 12 months. For details, visit laulanivillage.com.
