Your article comes from a disdainful bourgeois perspective. You open your article with a tidbit about how pedestrians have no choice but to go into the street for an alternative route.
“…are forcing pedestrians into the street.”
This is just ridiculous, but what adds even more sugar to the cake is that you agree with this on that premise. As if pedestrians couldn’t go around. As if pedestrians had a gun to their heads. As if their families were threatened of bodily harm.
Secondly, you attack performers for stating that they want to perform. You undermine their image and their sincerity with accusations that they only want to do it for money. I agree there is money appeal, but do NOT disregard their desire to perform or the attention from being ‘on stage’, so to speak. If money was only on their minds, they would probably be standing on the side of a freeway exit soliciting your so called ‘donations’ there.
You overlook the fact that street performing is a vocation that has existed far before news reporting or journalism. Your bourgeois attitude reflects an ignorant and compartmentalized idea of where our society is going and the trappings it has held for over a thousand years.
They say you should think before you speak. I think you need to think before you write.
