A Run On Guns, Congrats Miss CA

A recent report on the upswing of gun sales in Hawaii may contain some alarming statistics. According to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, there were 16,641 gun registrations in 2008, reflecting a 23 percent increase from the year before.
Concerned that President Barack Obama will outlaw assault-style weapons, there has been a 300 percent increase in sales of semi-automatic versions of the AR-15 and AK-47 for one retailer since Election Day 2008.
The FBI reports a 31 percent increase in firearms background checks from the month of the presidential election until the month of the inauguration, totaling more than 4.2 million.
The most troubling statistic, however, is that Americans almost lost the right to personal firearm ownership by one vote on the Supreme Court of the United States. In a recent 5-4 vote, with Justice Anthony Kennedy offering the tie-breaking tally, SCOTUS was poised to virtually vacate the Second Amendment and outlaw an armed citizenry.
The combination of Barack Obama’s election, Attorney General Eric Holder considering a Clinton-era ban on assault weapons, the SCOTUS decision, dire economic times and an increase in burglaries/home invasions are behind the heightened pursuit of personal protection.
I do not fault an individual for keeping themselves and their families safer.
And I don’t criticize hunters engaging in a sport they enjoy.
I do, however, find fault with those who doggedly attempt to create and pass laws that diminish a law-abiding citizen’s ability to possess firearms. The illogical and irrational conclusion by some who maintain that banning firearms will lead to a safer environment is a danger to freedom-loving Americans.
There is a reason why gun ownership is codified in the Second Amendment and not the last. Our founders understood that tyranny would be a reality if the populace were disarmed. Second Amendment rights should be impervious to governmental mitigation or elimination.
A celebrity wannabe, the inexplicable Perez Hilton, and a beauty queen, Miss California USA, recently made headlines about same-sex marriage. No, they were not trying to tie the knot themselves (Hilton is a male). But it was a revealing encounter that exposes the truth behind the same-sex marriage movement and a startling double standard that exists in America.
Perez Hilton, a blogger, was a judge in the Miss USA Pageant. Why? Who knows? More importantly, who cares? But while asking Miss California USA a requisite probative questions, he asked her (paraphrasing) why or why not same-sex marriage should be legal in every state. Miss California USA responded (paraphrasing) that marriage should be between a man and a woman, adding she meant no offense to anybody, but that was the way she was raised.
Many believe and, it was confirmed by Hilton, that Miss California USA - a contest front-runner - lost because of her answer. The following day, Hilton denigrated Miss California USA by saying she lost because “she was a dumb b***h!
Hilton, who is openly gay, did not like her answer and punished her for her opinion. To add insult to injury, he then went on to call her one of the most incendiary and profane names one could call a woman.
Where are the same-sex marriage proponents decrying a supporter’s actions? Where are the feminists who are sitting by and allowing a hate-filled spew against a fellow female to go unchecked?
The lesson is you can be criticized, derided, mocked, insulted and lose your standing if you dare express your opinion - an opinion, mind you, that was requested.
Miss California USA did this nation a service by comporting herself with nothing but class and professionalism despite the shrill tantrum exhibited by the whiny and self-important Mr. Hilton. I hope she finds the success and notoriety she desires and the true celebrity Mr. Hilton can only realize by association.
